Traditions at HDS
Flagraising is one of our many traditions at Hendricks Day School. On the first Friday of every month, the entire school (students, parents, faculty and staff) comes together as a family to pledge the flag, pray, celebrate birthdays, recognize special accomplishments by students and share information. At this month's flagraising, student representatives from each class shared their favorite things about the start of the school year. Third and Fourth graders sang a song about consequences - IT ROCKED! Also, 7th and 8th graders successfully performed a science experiment which demonstrated how the force of air pressure was able to suck an egg through a small opening in a beaker. Amazing!

Critical Thinking
The Hendricks Day School curriculum includes the teaching of a set of skills that are necessary to achieve competency in thinking critically. Educational research has pointed us in this direction, and we have embraced the philosophy that all children can become good thinkers. Guided by the direction of Dr. Robert Swartz and the National Center for Teaching Thinking, Hendricks Day School is committed to providing students with the proper skills and instruction to create, analyze, and evaluate information when making decisions and solving problems.
Habits of Mind are one of the many tools we employ at Hendricks to teach critical thinking skills as a way of life for our students.
