Science 5 - Dwyer

5th Grade Applied Science

Class Overview

The 5th grade science curriculum encourages students to question and investigate local and world issues using critical thinking and science processing skills with a focus in life, earth and physical science objectives.  And, as is our school's philosophy, students will also be offered several opportunities to practice their critical thinking skills and Habits of Mind.

This program is a fusion of information provided by the current classroom text, hands-on experiences, and real world application.  Students will complete a variety of experiments involving skillful observations, data collection and analysis, as well as opportunities to communicate conclusions.

All assignments are filed in the student's white 3-ring binder.  Everything we do on the lab contributes to the overalll grade.  This includes all LAB WORK, (which is graded for completion), as well as formal ASSESSMENTS, (which are graded for content).  Students are expected to participate in class discussions, investigations, and collaborative projects.  A portion of their LAB WORK grade will be based on their level of participation.
